While LA’s treasured elderly population undoubtedly gets better with age, no one can dispute that they can still use a little extra help here and there.   With the older adult population (65 years and above) doubling from approximately 1.1 million to more than 2.2 million by 2030, Mayor Eric Garcetti’s Executive Directive 17 establishes a road map for the implementation of a multi-year initiative to improve the lives of older adults by making City services and programs more age friendly.  Working together with the County of Los Angeles, the City of LA launched Purposeful Aging Los Angeles (PALA), a landmark initiative that unites public and private resources, ideas and strategies to make Los Angeles a more age-friendly region that allows people to age gracefully and stress-free.

In preparation for this dramatic population increase, we’re conducting a PALA Survey to get your input and have a better grasp on the needs of our elderly. It is available online at PurposefulAgingLA.com, as well as in our HCIDLA public counters throughout Los Angeles. The PALA Survey is provided in 10 languages and will be available until September 29, 2017.  Anyone 18 years or older living in the City or County of Los Angeles can complete and submit this survey.
